I’ve noticed this every election season, even myself but luckily I isolate it to one night. People act like election season is bigger than the World Series and yet its one of the most mundane boring procedural things of civil life. I vote, I mail my ballot in, I wait for the tally to come in. I see the races called. It’s a splendid result, I write it to my journal and am ready for the next project. Meanwhile people around me are still watching DCC acceptance speeches, picking apart words. Is it really necessary?

I ain’t gonna drown someone’s hobby of being an armchair politician when the needle finally swings their way but, at the same time I ain’t gonna partake either because while we overturned the house senate and governors table, we still have an insane 🍊 sitting in the White House surrounded by a cabinet that not even the drug cartel would trust to keep an ounce of fentanyl. I’m not saying it’s all doom and gloom but it’s no time to set up a political following station right now. Even when we do get a proper president, following politics is regarded by many as a pretty wasteful use of time.

One could be making art, writing, reading… Creating… Instead of sitting consuming and consuming while getting agitated occasionally and becoming so detached from reality you shout at the TV like nobody else is home. Politics is sports for people who don’t cheer on sports teams. And you can tell a sports junkie when you see one, just because they don’t have a Cubs jersey on and watch every game doesn’t make them not a junkie. You can have a political junkie who won’t touch sports and vice versa but they’re both the same breed of animal. Both of them crave numbers scores statistics and debates.

As for me? I’m not picking up the newspaper today, I’ve filed it away for later reading, mostly for the comics. The New York Times won’t be delivering beyond April no doubt and if the political … addiction continues, then I will cancel it next month. I will not feed an addictive personality an addictive material.

Update:12:12😡 I have now canceled the newspaper because it is becoming a piece of constant debates and I’m just fed up and done with it. I got the Chicago tribune mostly to have the business section and comics. I don’t give two shits about world events right now.

I’m working on a story and one new piece of art. That’s all that will be published and probably this evening thanks to Mrs McYammerenstein burning out all energy on me.
