The Last House. The movie was actually a well made horror film, a lot of people talk about it with disdain for a slow and cheesy feeling plot however the theoreticals all line up and the reality is a biohorror of this scale is in the grand scale of the universe plausible with minimal bending of the rules. The start of the film is slow, the timing is that of a rollercoaster to perfection of a few jump scares at mid point and toward the end. A true horror doesn’t just scare it leaves you wondering what actual biological horrors await us with climate change causing things that were never supposed to thaw to thaw. Maybe this movie wasn’t designed for you if you aren’t looking for a low intensity horror film that is well qualified to have the entire family gather around for Halloween night. I wouldn’t shield your children too hard from this one, its language use is tame at best with a few f bombs and a shit thrown in but all at very appropriate times to be swearing (i’d be saying much worse if a fish monster were in my basement!)
What the movie doesn’t deserve is to rot in obscurity so if you haven’t heard of it and you’re looking for a good entry level horror movie take a look at it. The creature that showed up in the basement was honestly horrifying, luckily we will never have giant fucking eels in our basement.
Runner up even though it’s not horror is Shinkansen daibakuha or Bullet Train Explosion, a japanese indie film rip off of yet again Speed. Ironically this one was a very fun watch with some truly gut wrenching and horrifying scenes.
That’s all I have for movie reviews right now. F.Y.I Toy Story 5 was probably the number one movie of 2026 and still holds that crown.
